Simple Steps When Installing Solar Lights to Brick Walls

Brick walls seem to be a popular choice for many homeowners. Brick is a classic, timeless material that adds character to any home. However, you can't just put solar lights on brick walls anywhere!

Steps When Installing Solar Lights on Brick Walls

Follow these tips and tricks to learn how you can install your solar lights onto brick walls without it looking tacky or making the fixture too heavy-handed.

Step #1

The first step is to find the studs in your wall before drilling holes for mounting screws. Once you have seen them, use a level and measure from one stud over to the other so that they are even distances apart - this will help keep your solar lumens lighting straight and secure when mounted. You should also drill pilot holes through which the screw will go into the bricks; make sure you use a tiny drill bit than the screw you will be using for this step.

Step #2

The next step is to determine which side of the wall you want the lights to face out towards. If you are installing more than one light, make sure that they are facing in different directions, or else it will look too much like a spotlight instead of giving off general illumination! Next, screw your fixtures into place by tightening up the screws using a drill or screwdriver.

Step #3

Now it is time to connect the solar panel to the light fixture. This is a straightforward process - all you have to do is unscrew the top of the solar panel, remove the cap on the end of the light fixture wire, and twist them together. Next, replace the lid on the end of the wire, and then place it on your mounting screw on your brick wall.

Step #4

The final step is to secure the solar panel to the ground. This will usually require some heavy-duty solar panel stakes that can be hammered into dirt/garden beds or pounded into grassy areas. Once you have secured the panel, ensure that the solar panel faces south and is not more than 20 degrees off of a perfect south-facing angle.

Tips:

  • Mounting screws should be located at least 1 foot away from any electrical wiring coming through your bricks!
  • Do not screw directly into mortar joints; instead, use pilot holes and make sure to use a drill bit that is smaller than the screw you will be using.
  • If you are having trouble getting your solar light to stay straight, try using some silicone sealant around the edges of the light fixture - this will help keep it in place.
  • If your solar light is not charging, check to ensure that the panel is clean and no obstruction (e.g., leaves, snow, dirt) between the board and the sun.
